This is not an anthology of "lesbian writers." Nor is it simply a one-sided compendium of "positive" or "negative" images of lesbian experience. With his teams and wagons he traversed all of the inland mine areas from Walla Walla to Fort Benton, from Boise Basin to South Pass City.

Reinhart's German common sense soon turned him from actual mining to other sources of income, but whatever his labor was, the mines were always the focal point of his activities. When he operated a whipsaw mill the timbers cut there were used by miners for sluices and cradles. If the internal security and international-power position secured by Austria at the Congress of Vienna were to be defended against the impact of widespread revolution in Europe, it was imperative that peace in Europe and the status quo be maintained. This required an unyielding opposition to all political movements that might disturb the equilibrium, especially French chauvinism and the spread of French constitutional ideas.

A one-man distillate of the doctrine of absolute monarchy, Metternich was the relentless foe of any cause, just or unjust, that threatened European repose. Hence, when the revolution in Naples seriously menaced Austrian hegemony in Italy, Metternich determined that the constitutional regime in Naples must be overthrown by an Austrian armed force, an absolute monarchy restored, and an Austrian army of occupation kept there. Nor did he scruple to use duplicity, secret negotiation, trickery, or deceit against ally and adversary alike in his effort to enlist them in the common cause of all thrones. At the Congress of Troppau, Metternich succeeded not only in defeating Russian ideas for peaceful intervention and a moderate constitution at Naples, but also in converting Tsar Alexander to thoroughly conservative views, thereby making Russia a powerful supporter of Austrian policies and knowingly alienating England, formerly Austria's closest ally.

Paul W. Schroeder brings to this bookexceptional scholarship and an objectivity hard to attain when dealing with a personality. Although Metternich, as Schroeder sees him, doubtless helped to maintain European peace and order, his real greatness consisted not in his European principles, but in his ability to defend Austrian interests under the guise of European principles. The evidence, gathered from documentary material in the Haus Hof- und Staatsarchiv in Vienna, has forced the author to the conclusion that Metternich was no real statesman. The very qualities that distinguished him as a brilliant diplomat--keen vision, cogent analysis, fertility of expedients, farsightedness, flexibility, and firmness of purpose--were converted into those of blindness to reality, superficial analysis, sterility of expedients, dogmatism, and failure of will when confronted with fundamental problems of state and society.

Author: Paul W. The Theosophic Society attracted popular interest for its esoteric and unusual nature; theosophy unites numerous mystical, spiritual and occult principles with the stated mission of finding the hidden truths of existence. This was accomplished through investigating ancient societies and writings, together with Medieval and Renaissance era authors, occultists and other mystics. With The Key to Theosophy, Blavatsky intended to demystify and clarify many of the finer points of the movement she founded. She not only discusses what topics the Theosophical Society has an interest in, but the organizational structure and leadership under which it operates The agreed beliefs among its members concerning man's place on the Earth, and how nature affects and controls humans perceptibly and imperceptibly, are likewise detailed.

Author: H. Marden points to various aspects of living which can confer a sense of meaning and happiness, from the friendships and connections we hold with others to the small pleasures we can experience by exercising our imaginations and being contented with a modest lot. Such thought processes lead to lasting satisfaction and happiness, and can dispel the restlessness native to the unhappy soul. The author also encourages a healthy work-life balance, noting that a person can find meaning if their work is purposeful or worthy of pride. The sense that recreation is earned, and the feeling of contribution to the world, are pointed out as attributes of joy. Marden puts forth the case that happiness and usefulness go hand-in-hand, and that taking effort to find joy in one's daily work is paramount to lasting joy.

Author: Orison Swett Marden
ISBN-10: 035903232X
ISBN-13: 9780359032327
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 08/18/2018
Pages: 126
Format: Hardcover
Weight: 0.75lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.38d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_2540732f-140a-4bfd-8621-e49a5a05b658.jpg?v=1680810134
the-story-of-the-moors-stanley-lane-poole-9780359033782
The Story of the Moors in Spain: A History of the Moorish Empire in Europe; their Conquest, Book of Laws and Code of Rites (Hardcover)
This fascinating history book details the Moorish arrival, conquest and rule over Spain and the Iberian peninsula in Europe. The Moorish brought industriousness and commerce, a sophisticated code of laws, beautiful architecture, and outstanding scholarly achievements in astronomy and mathematics - together, these would forever shape the culture of Spain and Portugal. This mental reservoir may, with gradual development, be tapped with results such as success, interpersonal harmony, a serene sense of peace and greater spiritual satisfaction. Improving one's personality, character and coping powers with life's trials is, in the author's worldview, a matter of harnessing and using the forces we all hold within. Larson. In describing our inner forces, Larson draws upon the personal and spiritual qualities possessed by every human being. The first part is entitled "The Literature of Ceremonial Magic". Here, Waite examines the ritualistic traditions which have surrounded the occult movement for centuries. He notes various texts, and how they each had a bearing upon the practice of the occult; of magical ceremony; and the phenomena of spirit summoning. The second part, "The Complete Grimoire", concerns how those who practice black magic and occult ritual become versed in the craft. The stringent physical and mental requirements, and the need to practice a spiritual attunement and inner ablution, is detailed. Astronomical knowledge of the planets and their movements is a necessity, as is possession of a variety of instruments, plus a deep knowledge of the various symbols and scripts used in the occult craft.

Author: Arthur Edward Waite
ISBN-10: 0359045693
ISBN-13: 9780359045693
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 08/24/2018
Pages: 186
Format: Paperback
Weight: 0.62lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.43d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_6c7b15a1-a2e8-40e6-a3d6-aa1892ccbd1f.jpg?v=1680810138
vaudeville-mind-reading-and-kindred-david-j-lustig-9780359074631
Vaudeville Mind Reading and Kindred Phenomena
From the INTRODUCTION. I doubt whether I shall ever forget the first time I saw Robert Heller, charming entertainer. It was sometime in the early sixties, at the Chinese Assembly Rooms, New York, his first appearance, an invitation to the press. He was almost unheard of. His advance agent, John Hall Wilton, who brought Anderson, the Wizard of the North, to this country, believing that Heller would make a more favorable impression as a Frenchman, persuaded him, clever mimic that he was, to affect a foreign accent. This he did for a while, but soon gave it up on the plea that he had been long enough in the country to learn the language. His opening tricks were nothing surprising, but when he reached his Second Sight, which was then new, at least to our people, his reputation was made. His audience was made up, in great part, of bright newspaper men, who set their wits to work to solve the secret of that clever trick....

Author: David J. Writing in the 1710s, the author reflected on his lifetime as a man of God who had conducted many official ceremonies and events in his church. The concerns of his congregation, many of whom experienced the heights of joy and depths of despair that life offers, led Matthew Henry to devise a methodology for praying to the Lord rich in example. This method is intended to both respect and properly consult the divine, and also give comfort to believers who are in a state of distress or anxiety. Requests to God to fulfil a desire, to forgive a sin, as well as communications of life. Simple prayers of praise, wherein the Lord is given thanks for good fortune or daily small blessings, are also detailed.

Author: Matthew Henry
ISBN-10: 0359726968
ISBN-13: 9780359726967
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 06/14/2019
Pages: 152
Format: Hardcover
Weight: 0.82lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.38d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_324ebb95-7bc9-40ff-a476-d0b00c4aea50.jpg?v=1680810199
an-address-to-all-believers-david-whitmer-9780359727759
An Address to All Believers in Christ: By A Witness to the Divine Authenticity of the Book of Mormon
Early devotee to the Mormon church David Whitmer issues here his famous missive addressed to all the Christians on Earth. Testifying to the existence of the golden plates discovered by Joseph Smith in New York state, David Whitmer expounds upon the principles of Mormonism and encourages readers to heed his declaration. More controversially, we hear Whitmer's account of how the church gravitated to unusual beliefs and practices such as polygamy. Writing late in his life during the 1880s, the elderly Whitmer decries this practice and other events as examples of Latter Day Saints church leadership going astray. Thus, while the author praises Joseph Smith for using his gifts of prophecy and charisma to found the Mormon movement, he is not commending of the founder's later actions. The abiding message is that God is the ultimate judge of our behaviors, and that it is God who will decide upon the fates of all individuals when they perish and their souls traverse the afterlife.

Author: David Whitmer
ISBN-10: 0359727751
ISBN-13: 9780359727759
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 06/14/2019
Pages: 82
Format: Paperback
Weight: 0.29lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.20d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_510a6af9-1f3f-4c84-9213-334f3a19340c.jpg?v=1680810199
counterfeit-miracles-benjamin-b-warfield-9780359732814
Counterfeit Miracles: A History of Fake Miracles and Healings in the Christian and Catholic Traditions, with Arguments in Favor of Cessation
Benjamin Warfield chronicles and explains the false and discredited miracles performed since the Middle Ages, and puts forth cessationism as an explanation for the miracles described in the Bible. With works collected from dozens of authors from the 17th to the early 20th centuries, this anthology of Catholic poetry is both thorough and authentic. With contributions sourced from figures as diverse as John Henry Newman, Edmund Leamy and Alice Meynell, this vast assemblage of poems seeks to represent the essence of belief in Christ as Savior, and to affirm holy Catholicism as the truest essence of Christian faith on Earth. The poems range from simple but heartfelt devotional praise to Jesus, to expositions of Bible lessons and celebrations of Christian ceremonies. Some carry seasonal themes, marking Christ's birth on Christmas Day or his rebirth on Easter. Many tribute Biblical events, with particular emphasis being on the birth, life and death of Jesus as portrayed in the New Testament.

Author: Joyce Kilmer
ISBN-10: 0359733034
ISBN-13: 9780359733033
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 06/17/2019
Pages: 204
Format: Hardcover
Weight: 0.98lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.50d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_62eccc85-0232-4843-a932-744121ad0896.jpg?v=1680810202
intra-muros-rebecca-ruter-springer-9780359737888
Intra Muros: My Dream of Heaven - A Christian's Counsel on Death, Bereavement and the Afterlife
The moving recollections of Rebecca Ruter Springer serve as emotional support to Christians who are bereaved and grieving, or contemplating the nature of the heavenly afterlife. Arranged in chapters as a loose narrative, Intra Muros comprises of a series of dreamlike episodes and reflections upon the essence of life, death and what comes next after we perish. Steeped in the Christian tradition, the author's narration traverses the spiritual planes that follow death, and her descriptions of heaven are evocative and reassuring. The appearance of the heavenly realms, the blessings of the angelic spirits, and the journey the believer's souls makes the author's words profound and vivid to read. For Sibbes, the Biblical lore explained much about the difficulties of living, the challenges each person must face, and endeavouring to reconcile the qualities of the soul with the eternal nature of the heavenly divine. Through devotion to God and spurning the influence and temptations of Satan, Christian believers can attain greater happiness and fulfillment, together with a capacity to cope with the difficulties inherent to life. Traversing the Bible and psalms, Sibbes reveals lessons on soul nurturing from a variety of sources; of particular interest is the book of Ecclesiastes, which is a frank explanation of the human condition. Sibbes is keen to demonstrate strategies which observant and moral people use to fend off sin and the misfortunes of succumbing to it.

Author: Richard Sibbes
ISBN-10: 0359747922
ISBN-13: 9780359747924
Publisher: Lulu.com
Language: English
Published: 06/23/2019
Pages: 194
Format: Paperback
Weight: 0.64lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.45d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_c6ce14b7-239c-4b54-8a87-04a31e49e88e.jpg?v=1680810210
before-literature-sheila-j-nayar-9780367242800
Before Literature: The Nature of Narrative Without the Written Word

Before Literature examines storytelling that, whether due to historical, technological, or socio-economic circumstance, is neither shaped nor influenced by alphabetic literacy.

How does a story unfold when carried solely in memory, when it cannot be written down or externally stored? As such, it constituted the first systematic account of the theory of rings of continuous functions, and it has retained its secure position as the basic graduate-level book in this area.
The authors focus on characterizing the maximal ideals and classifying their residue class fields. Problems concerning extending continuous functions from a subspace to the entire space play a fundamental role in the study, and these problems are discussed in extensive detail. A thorough treatment of the Stone-Čech compactification is supplemented with a number of related topics: the Ulam measure problem, the theory of uniform spaces, and a small but significant portion of dimension theory. Hundreds of problems of varying difficulty appear throughout the text, providing additional details, describing counterexamples, and outlining new topics.

Author: Leonard Gillman, Meyer Jerison
ISBN-10: 0486816885
ISBN-13: 9780486816883
Publisher: Dover Publications
Language: English
Published: 01/16/2018
Pages: 320
Format: Paperback
Weight: 0.90lbs
Size: 8.90h x 6.00w x 0.70d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/products/img_7aed7aed-18d8-4789-9fd3-e4a3b2d92c5d.jpg?v=1680812642
jane-austen-constance-hill-9780486826769
Jane Austen: Her Homes and Her Friends
On a sunny September morning more than a century ago, a horse and buggy bearing two sisters wound its way past green pastures and wooded hills to the narrow streets of a Hampshire village. This charmingly written and illustrated account of their literary pilgrimage begins in Steventon, Jane Austen's birthplace, and extends to Bath, Lyme, Southampton, London, and elsewhere before concluding at the author's burial place in Winchester Cathedral. Along the way, it offers insights into the connections between the author's experiences and those of the characters in her novels.
Constance and Ellen Hill were given access to manuscripts of Austen's letters, unpublished family memoirs, and notebooks containing the "Minor Works," as well as the loan of family portraits, pictures, and contemporary sketches. It is a vivid sketch of European history from ancient Rome to the early twentieth century, remaining significant in the canon of Lawrence's work as the only school textbook he ever wrote. Crumpton's introduction describes the genesis, publication and reception of the book, gives an account of the little-known Irish edition of 1926 which suffered much censorship, and identifies and analyses Lawrence's methods of using the source-books on which his writing was based. The series features line-by-line commentaries and textual notes on the plays and poems. Introductions are regularly refreshed with accounts of new critical, stage and screen interpretations. In this second edition of Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor David Crane emphasises the liveliness of the play in stage terms. He also claims that this citizen comedy was an expression of Shakespeare's fundamental understanding of human life, conveyed centrally in the character of Falstaff. In the process he examines Shakespeare's free and vigorous use of different linguistic worlds. Ten were selected and revised by Lawrence for his collection England, My England published in 1922 in the United States and 1924 in Britain. Some of the stories included in this volume are "Tickets Please", "The Blind Man", "Monkey Nuts", "Wintry Peacock", "Hadrian", "Samson and Delilah", "The Primrose Path", "The Horse-Dealer's Daughter", and "The Last Straw". The texts aim to recover Lawrence's own intentions, which editors and publishers all too frequently ignored or altered. Where possible, manuscripts and corrected typescripts are used as base-texts.
