The street teaches you how to survive as one.

Every rookie officer begins a career with the same goal: to do the job well, make good decisions, and live up to the responsibility of wearing the badge. But many of the lessons that determine whether an officer succeeds are not found in textbooks, classrooms, or training manuals. They are learned through experience, mistakes, correction, and time.

In 100 Mistakes Rookie Cops Make, veteran police officer Steven David Lampley reveals the common mistakes that can affect a new officer's safety, reputation, career, relationships, and future in law enforcement.

Written in an easy-to-read mistake-by-mistake format, this book examines the challenges every new officer faces,

Including:
- Failing to understand the difference between academy training and street reality
- Trying too hard to prove yourself
- Ignoring the advice of experienced officers
- Making poor decisions under pressure
- Failing to communicate effectively
- Neglecting report writing and documentation
- Losing perspective during difficult situations
- Allowing stress and negativity to change who you are
- Damaging relationships outside the badge
- Forgetting that public trust is the foundation of policing

Each lesson provides a clear explanation of the mistake, why it matters, and practical guidance for avoiding it.

This book is not about criticizing rookie officers. Every experienced officer was once a beginner. Mistakes are part of learning. The difference between officers who grow and officers who struggle is the willingness to recognize problems, accept correction, and continue improving.

Drawing from a 21-year law enforcement career as an SVU detective, Field Training Officer, firearms instructor, and investigator, Steven David Lampley provides the lessons that are often learned only after years on the job.

Whether you are a police academy recruit, probationary officer, Field Training Officer, instructor, supervisor, or someone who wants to better understand the challenges of law enforcement, this book offers valuable insight into building a career based on professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

The badge is more than a symbol of authority.

It is a responsibility.

Learn how to carry it well.

Author: Steven David Lampley
ISBN-13: 9798188379162
Publisher: Independently Published
Language: English
Published: 07/21/2026
Pages: 314
Format: Paperback
Weight: 0.93lbs
Size: 9.00h x 6.00w x 0.66d
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/2982/9887/files/img_38737663-43ee-4fa7-96cb-6b119fb6b786.jpg?v=1792014763
https://www.whiterainbookhouse.com/products/100-mistakes-rookie-cops-make-steven-david-lampley-9798188379162
