Of course, it is impossible to write a book of war without the unpleasant business of battles and skirmishes making their presence felt and Jackson takes us through campaign, march, camp, skirmish and battle in absorbing detail. This is a book few students of the Boer War will want to be absent from their collections. Recommended.
