After a couple of other short term jobs he was accepted into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and served for almost 21 years on small detachments in the arctic, Alberta and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBritish Columbia.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHe spent two years in the Federal Public Service as Personnel Officer, but found it too boring and went into the general labour force as a welder, lumber grader, sawyer and grader operator. He was hired by the Village of Masset as foreman of Public Works and in six years moved to the Superintendant's position.
