In his chronicle, Gesta Hammaburgenis ecclesie pontificum, Adam states that King Harald III of Norway, known as Hardrada, voyaged to the lands beyond Greenland: 'King Harald thoroughly searched the length of the northern oceans, and discovered the dark boundaries of a savage world.
