Brandane is one of the few Scots to have written a novel dealing with the First World War.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 1935 he found the demands of medical practice in the city and authorship too heavy. He returned to the Highlands to rural practice in Lochgoilhead in Argyll.
