The print office was sacked, the pages burned, the type smashed. This denunciation of the American right to free speech was not taken lightly by his countrymen. Within the month, Joseph Smith was in Carthage jail and a mob saw to his death. But most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have never even heard of the Nauvoo Expositor, let alone read it.
