During that momentous year he\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewas a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and in regular touch with\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emany of the leading figures (including Mountbatten) involved in the transfer\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof power from British to Indian hands.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMuch more than an autobiography, Of the Raj, Maharajas and Me is also a rare\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eportrait of India during and immediately after the British Raj. The former\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eprincely States of India have been neglected by scholars, many of whom have\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etended to be unfairly critical.
