The proposed antenna operates around 2.31 GHz and provides an impedance bandwidth of 20 MHz. The second miniaturization technique used is the ground plane defect structure (GDS), where two microstrip antennas have been fabricated; the first antenna has a narrow bandwidth (272 MHz), while the second, which has a smaller patch area and an overall size of 10 × 6 mm , has a wide bandwidth (greater than 1 GHz). To validate the numerical results, measurements were carried out, with satisfactory results.
