During his retirement, he maintained his interest in politics and contemporary culture. This volume, first published in 1913, contains a collection of articles written for magazines such as the Edinburgh Review and the Spectator between 1908 and 1913, on the topics of contemporary politics and literary culture. Baring discusses various subjects including Army reform, the contemporary systems of colonial government, and the future of Classics in education and historiography.
