This book presents the main features of those materials, and then addresses the problem of controlling magnetic shape memory positioning actuators. Two control approaches are introduced, namely a PID control and an adaptive control based on adaptive hysteresis compensation. They are able to handle the presence of hysteresis in the input-output characteristic. The adaptive approach also handles the temperature-dependent behaviour of the nonlinearity.
