Their new corvette is fast and the high-speed minelayers coming on line in November 2021 will go a long way towards denying naval dominance by an enemy around the island nation. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eThe corvette has been dubbed an \"aircraft carrier killer\" by the press and that tells me Taiwan is concerned with China's plans to launch several new aircraft carriers in the coming years. The next generation (after the ships that are currently undergoing sea trials) will probably be nuclear powered. I suspect they will also include a full complement of defensive weapons to include lasers, rail guns and as yet unannounced sonic weapons similar to what was used in Cuba, but on a much larger scale. It remains to be seen if China's strategy of moving the conflict further away from their shores will be effective.
