Health and wellness had eluded me my adult life, and for 20 years, I was obese, drinking copious amounts of alcohol, and dabbling with drugs. After going through ups and downs, different "diets" and various attempts at building sustainable, healthy habits, I finally decided to start knocking bad habits down one at a time until I could either control or eliminate them. In March of 2012, I had enough of allowing myself to let people treat me poorly, and I took control of my health and took action to FINALLY get and stay healthy. It started by writing a list of 100 reasons to lose 100 pounds. Then, I sat in front of a camera, and admitted a hard truth. "My name is Karen, and I am 100 pounds overweight." My plan was to record 100 videos - 1 video for each pound I wanted to lose, and discussing one of the reasons on my list. I hoped that documenting this transition and sharing it with people would keep me accountable and help me and others find success. It worked! I did it! Healthy food, staying active, giving up alcohol and getting involved in recovery have all been hugely instrumental in my success. It took time and lots of lessons learned (which is to say setbacks and mistakes), and it will be a lifelong growing and learning process. There is always more to learn! I'm active in yoga, roller skating, weight lifting, high intensity intervals training, and I am a roller derby referee. Since making the transition into wellness, I've shared my journey and LOVE to empower and inspire others to reach their goals! Now I'm an author, speaker, yoga and fitness instructor, a private chef and a nutrition coach. Knowing what I've been through, I approach clients with a zero judgement, collaborative approach to reach goals. We all make mistakes, and our setbacks are our greatest teacher. I preach and live this - I am an imperfect coach for imperfect people. As long as we can work together, we can make things happen! This has taken a lifetime to work up to and will take a lifetime moving forward to maintain, but now I have a foundation and I am UNSTOPPABLE!
