Relaxation is up there with Peace and Love as one of the best things in life, and like them it is free.

I have a mental illness called hypomania, I get high, but I don't get low. This book has enabled me to live with it, to manage my illness. I would not have written anything without it.

My theory is simple: 'Mental illness is your brain working against you'. When your brain is calm, relaxed, your mental illness is not active, your brain is not working against you.

Using the exercises in this book I will show you how to calm your mind, how to relax. You may say:

'I haven't got a mental illness, I don't need this'.

OK, answer me this question:

'Do you ever get stressed?'

If your answer is no, you are right, you don't need this book. You are very lucky, if your answer is 'yes', stress is your brain telling you: 'I don't like this, it is making me ill'.

In other words it is giving you a mental illness. A breakdown, like I had, is just an extreme example of a mental illness. I have never met anyone who has never been stressed.
