A Certain Kind of Sin (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798182803069)

She tried to kill her husband.

The problem is... someone else got there first.

At 8:43 on a Thursday night, Amber Vale pours her husband a glass of bourbon and adds the fine white powder she believes will kill him.

She has spent weeks planning this moment.

Todd has been cheating on her. Their marriage has become a battlefield of betrayal, resentment, and secrets, and Amber has finally decided how it will end. She watches him drink, knowing exactly what she has done and expecting the consequences to come within minutes.

Except they don't.

Todd finishes the bourbon. He argues with her. Then he walks out the door alive.

Hours later, he's dead.

For the police, the case is almost too easy. Amber had motive. She had researched how to kill him. She admits preparing his final drink. And when toxicology confirms that Todd died from poisoning, the conclusion seems unavoidable.

Amber Vale murdered her husband.

Even Amber believes she's guilty.

Convicted and sent to Blackridge Women's Correctional Facility, the former adult-film star becomes exactly what the public already wanted her to be: a scandal, a spectacle, and a killer. Her past makes irresistible headlines, while the truth of what happened inside her marriage disappears beneath everything people think they know about her.

Amber stops trying to convince anyone she is innocent.

After all, how can she?

She intended to kill Todd.

But Blackridge warden John Mercer sees something in Amber's case that no one else seems willing to examine: the timing doesn't make sense.

Todd didn't collapse in the kitchen. He didn't become sick in front of Amber. He walked away.

And as questions begin to surface about Todd's final hours, an even more disturbing possibility emerges.

What if Amber's attempt to murder her husband failed?

What if the substance she put in his drink wasn't what she thought it was?

And if Amber didn't actually kill Todd...

who did?

As her attorney begins pulling at threads buried beneath the original investigation, Amber is forced to confront a truth far more complicated than innocence. She may not be responsible for Todd's death, but that doesn't erase what she intended to do. Freedom would mean admitting something almost as terrible as murder itself:

She tried.

Meanwhile, the one person who sees the difference between what Amber intended and what actually happened is the one man who should never become personally involved with her.

John Mercer has spent his life believing that desire is something dangerous-something controlled through discipline, distance, and denial. As warden of Blackridge, he knows exactly where the line between himself and Amber stands.

He also knows what crossing it could cost him.

But as the investigation exposes hidden phone calls, missing evidence, conflicting stories, and secrets surrounding Todd's final night, the distance between prisoner and warden becomes harder to maintain.

Because Amber Vale isn't asking anyone to believe she's a good person.

She's asking them to believe something much more difficult:

A woman can be guilty of wanting a man dead and still be innocent of his murder.

Dark, twisty, and morally complicated, A Certain Kind of Sin is a psychological suspense novel about guilt, obsession, forbidden love, betrayal, and the uncomfortable space between intention and consequence.

Because some sins are committed out of hatred.

Some are committed out of love.

And sometimes the difference between a murderer and an innocent woman isn't what she intended to do...

but who got there first.
