Clay's mother and grandfather taught him the importance of learning to love work. Growing up on the family farm, by age ten he already understood the meaning of a long row to hoe. In the early years, in addition to the family farm and football, he worked as a furniture assembler, lifeguard, paper boy, waiter, cookie salesman, and oil field roustabout. In the middle years he was an owner and CEO of an insurance brokerage firm, University teacher, and talk show host. In his latest phase he manages real estate investments and a Bed and Breakfast, and is an author, speaker and coach.
