A Dissertation On Slavery: With A Proposal For The Gradual Abolition Of It In The State Of Virginia (1796) is a book written by St. George Tucker. The book is a detailed analysis of the institution of slavery in the state of Virginia, and proposes a gradual abolition of it. The author argues that slavery is morally wrong and that it violates the principles of the American Revolution. He also discusses the economic and social implications of slavery, and the negative effects it has on both slaves and slave owners. Tucker suggests a plan for the gradual abolition of slavery, which includes the education and training of slaves, the establishment of a system of apprenticeship, and the gradual emancipation of slaves. The book is a significant contribution to the debate on slavery in America, and played a role in shaping the views of many abolitionists in the years to come. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
