A Dissertation on the Disorder of Death (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781162610078)

""A Dissertation on the Disorder of Death"" is a philosophical and medical treatise written by Walter Whiter, first published in 1789. The book explores the concept of death and the various ways in which it is understood and experienced by different cultures and individuals. Whiter argues that death is not a simple and straightforward event, but rather a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that can manifest in different ways depending on a variety of factors, including age, health, and cultural beliefs. The book is divided into four parts, each of which focuses on a different aspect of death. The first part explores the physical and physiological aspects of death, including the signs and symptoms of dying and the various causes of death. The second part examines the psychological and emotional aspects of death, including the fear and anxiety that often accompany the dying process. The third part looks at the cultural and social aspects of death, including the rituals and customs that surround death and mourning in different cultures and societies. The final part of the book offers Whiter's own philosophical reflections on death, including his thoughts on the nature of the soul and the afterlife.Throughout the book, Whiter draws on a wide range of sources, including medical texts, religious and philosophical writings, and personal observations and experiences. He also engages with the work of other thinkers and writers who have explored the topic of death, including Plato, Aristotle, and Montaigne.Overall, ""A Dissertation on the Disorder of Death"" is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of one of the most fundamental and universal experiences of human life. It offers a wealth of information and ideas for anyone interested in the history and philosophy of death and dying.1819.
