xThe author of the book is J.S. Hopkins, aka John Sherwood Hopkins. He was born to Josiah P. and Marha Jane (Stoakes) Hopkins in Ohio. His father died while he was young, and they moved to Iowa when his mother married L.S. Cope. He and Mr. Arhur Thomas worked together to compile the history of his mother's family. He died in 1923- just a few years after this book was published, and is now buried in Humboldt county.
