A History of Elementary Mathematics (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025523156)

"A History of Elementary Mathematics" provides a comprehensive and authoritative overview of the evolution of mathematical thought from antiquity through the early 20th century. Written by the renowned historian Florian Cajori, this work meticulously traces the development of number systems, arithmetic, geometry, and algebra across diverse civilizations, including the Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Hindus.

The text explores the pedagogical shifts and intellectual breakthroughs that shaped foundational mathematical concepts. By examining the historical context of mathematical discovery, Cajori offers valuable insights into how elementary mathematics reached its contemporary form. This work serves as an essential resource for educators, mathematicians, and students of the history of science, highlighting the cultural and logical progressions that define the discipline. Readers will find detailed accounts of the origins of mathematical symbols, the refinement of calculation methods, and the growth of logical reasoning that underpins the field of mathematics.
