Who is Freddie Jay? I was born in Baltimore Maryland in 1968. I came from the blue collar place that is the joke of many Baltimore deejays called Dundalk. My father was a two fisted, beer drinking man, quick to anger, quicker to swing and slow to reason. It was sitting on the steps listening to him tell stories of the gangs and gangsters of his day that gave me my love for words and there power to transport you to a different time and place. My mother got sick with breast cancer while I was still very young and the fear of losing her coupled with my fathers unpredictable behavior kept me in a constant state of uncertainty. My older sister had left home to escape the madness that permeated the very air in our house and my two older brothers were serving long prison sentences which left me to my own devices. I found escape in the written word and by creating worlds all my own, I wrote many poems and stories before leaving home at fifteen. Addiction, prison sentences and fear of failure kept me from returning to this form of self expression for many years. After many attempts and false starts I started writing in earnest in 2007 just keeping a journal and writing some short stories. As I wrote I felt compelled to not only tell a story but to tell my story and this was the basis for my book that will be out in December of this year titled "A Junkie's Nightmare, Coming Clean.
