A Long Journey Home (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781539612667)

Author E. Wayne Nelson spent years researching the lives of his ancestors and reconstructing their journeys using family stories and historical records. Now, he presents the adventures of Judith Bowers in the days of colonial America.

A Long Journey Home begins with Judith's grandparents and their children narrowly escaping the siege of La Rochelle in 1627. Judith's father soon left for America, and he settled in Virginia in 1630. By the time Judith is born, in 1652, the colonists are already beginning to build a flourishing series of settlements. Judith grows up in Virginia and eventually marries Matthew Spivey. Life in the wilderness, however, can be brutal. Matthew dies young, leaving Judith a widow, but her indomitable spirit cannot be quenched.

Nelson follows Judith as she encounters adventure, love, and heartache in the New World. She and her children face many challenges in the wilderness, including the constant threat of famine or illness and the attacks of local Native American tribes.

The story of Judith and her adventurous family is the story of America and the many brave pioneers who built this country. Hundreds of years later, her legacy lives on through her descendants-and now in this new book.
