A Message from the Author
Twelve years ago, a Buddhist monk introduced me to proper meditation practice, and everything changed. I discovered what meditation truly offers: happiness, focus, calm, mental strength, patience, kindness, and a deep, unshakeable inner peace.
But here is what I also discovered - most adults who try meditation give up. Not because it does not work, but because the way it is taught does not hold them. Instructional books feel clinical. Apps feel impersonal. Guided videos lose their novelty after a week. The practices are ancient and powerful, but somewhere between the teaching and the living, they fail to stick.
That is why I wrote this book.
A Mind Like Still Water does not teach meditation as a subject - it wraps it in a journey. You walk alongside a wise guide named Master Eli through the Kingdom of Still Waters, a hidden ancient kingdom where each landmark holds a meditation practice woven into the story through vivid metaphors you can feel, remember, and most importantly, want to practise.
Inside this journey, you will discover seven carefully chosen meditations:
Gratitude - to see the good that already exists in your life and let it fill your heart
Mindfulness - to anchor your mind in the present moment and stop it from wandering without purpose
Truth - to see life as it truly is, both its beauty and its difficulty, and find strength in that honesty
Loving Kindness - to replace anger and resentment with compassion for yourself and every living being
Impermanence - to understand that everything changes, and to hold your life gently because of it
Breathing - to release the weight from your mind and body and find a lightness that is always available to you
Reflection - to look honestly at your actions, identify what needs to change, and recognise what is already good
These seven practices were selected not just for their power, but for their practicality - tools you can use every single day for the rest of your life. Whether you have never meditated before or have tried and struggled to stay consistent, this book meets you where you are. The story makes the practices feel natural. The guide makes them feel possible. And the kingdom makes them unforgettable.
This book is my sincere effort to share with others what transformed my own life. The practices are ancient. The journey is timeless. And the peace they offer is available to anyone willing to step into the boat.
May it bring you the happiness, calm, and fulfilment you have been searching for - and may the stillness it plants within you grow deeper with every day you practise.
With gratitude,
Rajith
