A Sergeant's Diary in the World War (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025982205)

"A Sergeant's Diary in the World War" is an evocative firsthand account of the American military experience during the Great War. Written by Elmer Frank Straub, this personal diary serves as a detailed record of the daily life, observations, and reflections of a soldier serving in the American Expeditionary Forces. The narrative provides a granular view of the war, capturing both the quiet moments of routine and the heightened tensions of active service in the European theater.

Through the eyes of a sergeant, the work explores the logistical complexities of the 1910s military machine, the deep bonds formed between servicemen, and the atmospheric reality of the era's battlefields. Unlike official histories, this diary emphasizes the individual's perspective, offering insights into the morale, hardships, and perseverance of those on the ground. It is a vital historical document that illuminates the grit and dedication required of the non-commissioned officers who led their men through unprecedented global conflict.

This work stands as an important contribution to the corpus of World War I literature, providing a clear and unvarnished window into the past. "A Sergeant's Diary in the World War" remains a powerful resource for historians, educators, and anyone seeking to understand the personal dimensions of military history and the human spirit during wartime.
