William John Edmondson at the age of nine took several oil painting lessons. These oil lessons sparked great interest as well as an early talent for drawing and painting. As a beginning painter, Edmondson entered art shows on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. He Won Best of Show and other first place prizes as well as first places in college shows. During high school Mr. Edmondson took college preparatory courses with a concentration in the biological sciences. This led him to appreciate and become fascinated with animals and plants. After attending high school Mr. Edmondson entered Delaware Valley college of Science and Agriculture in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, majoring in biology. With the love of animals and art he began to draw and paint. He became an art teacher and moved into a new house to start a family. Mr. Edmondson entered the teaching profession. He taught biology for two years than switched to teaching art in a Southwest Florida middle school where he has spent the last thirty three years. As an art educator and marine aquarist William Edmondson hopes through his art and children's books to promote an awareness and better understanding of our planet especially the oceans, plants and animals without which we could not exist.
