African Pedagogy: A Fusion of Orality, Higher Education, and Pastoral Formation (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781786412232)

In this groundbreaking work, Dr. Elizabeth W. Mburu and Dr. S. Trevor Yoakum present a new pedagogy for African higher education. Traditionally, theological education has followed learning theories developed in the West, which have failed to address the specific challenges faced by African learners. Exploring philosophies of education and developing a new pedagogical approach, Mburu and Yoakum engage with the concept of fusion, which is the creative combination of African teaching methods within institutional education. This fusion is built upon the principles of orality in communication theory. Deeply practical and insightful, the book also provides exercises in lesson planning for African pedagogy in the classroom. This is a must-read for theological educators and students in search of truly contextual African teaching methods.
