Steve Amoils, MD and Sandi Amoils, MD are Co-Medical Directors at AIM for Wellbeing (formerly called Alliance Integrative Medicine), a division of The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. AIM for Wellbeing has been acknowledged as one of the leading clinical centers of integrative medicine in the United States, averaging over thirty thousand patient visits per year since its inception in 1999. Steve and Sandi are board-certified family physicians. After completing medical school in South Africa, they spent two years traveling the world, learning from healers in various indigenous healing systems. They studied acupuncture in Japan and healing techniques throughout the world. They did further training in England and then the United States, where they completed residencies in family medicine. They later studied medical acupuncture under Joe Helms, MD and Nadia Volf, MD. After meeting Dr. Jeff Bland, known as the father of functional medicine, they realized they could incorporate nutritional approaches, lifestyle interventions, and stress reduction into their primary preventive approach to illness. Steve and Sandi have maintained leadership roles in promoting medical acupuncture and integrative and functional medicine across the country. Through their involvement with the Bravewell Collaborative, they were able to establish Best Practices in Integrative Medicine by combining their knowledge in partnership with other leaders in integrative medicine. Through their participation in Bravenet, they were involved in national research on integrative medicine. Sandi is a past president of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. At AIM for Wellbeing they have established a flourishing practice and a successful integrative medicine fellowship training program for physicians. Through the Integrative Medicine Fund of The Christ Hospital Foundation, they established the Get Well program, designed to help underserved patients. After the passing of their daughter Maya, they created another non-profit fund, Maya's Way, which provides free integrative care to patients under 40 with cancer. All proceeds of this book will go toward the Integrative Medicine Fund and the Maya's Way Fund at The Christ Hospital Foundation.
