Ice Age hunters Roxor and Xoxa have chosen love over duty and are now outcasts struggling to survive in a harsh land. It's roughly 11000 BCE, and in what is now known as Alaska, humans rely on family and community to eke out an existence. The Ice Age is ending and game is disappearing with the melting glaciers. To make matters worse, Roxor and Xoxa's problems don't end with their solitude. Roxor's vengeful, jilted half-brother is pursuing the lovers, intent on reclaiming Xoxa, his intended bride. Xoxa herself has a dangerous secret that is slowing them down-and could put her life at risk.
Roxor and Xoxa's best chance seems to lie in allegiance to another tribe, the Tanana. They're accepted, but only because they keep their relationship secret. The Tanana have their own challenges, however, in the form of violent conflict with the Borogoi.
Their adopted people will call on Roxor's fighting skills, but he's more intent on traveling south with his wife to lands where game is still plentiful. Unfortunately, no one is safe from the Borogoi, and Roxor and Xoxa will have to make a stand before they can seek greener pastures.
John E. Swindells was born in Dallas, Texas. He served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1989 and retired with the rank of colonel. He holds degrees in zoology, anthropology, and education from the University of Texas, American University, and George Washington University, respectively. His graduate degree in anthropology sparked a fascination with early American civilizations that led him to dream up the story of Roxor and Xoxa's star-crossed Ice Age romance. Written in the spirit of Jean M. Auel's beloved Earth's Children novels, Swindells's American Odyssey Series includes Alaskan Genesis and its sequel High Plains Exodus. He and his wife live in central Kentucky.
