An Explanation of the Rule of the Friars Minor (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025650753)

"An Explanation of the Rule of the Friars Minor" is a comprehensive and scholarly guide to the spiritual and administrative framework governing the Franciscan Order. Written by Father John Ilg, this work provides a detailed commentary on the Rule established by Saint Francis of Assisi, which has served as the foundational document for the Friars Minor for centuries. The text offers a line-by-line examination of the mandates concerning poverty, chastity, and obedience, translating the medieval origins of these vows into a context suitable for ecclesiastical study and personal devotion.

Through rigorous analysis, the author explores the theological significance of the mendicant lifestyle and the daily obligations of the brothers. The work delves into the history of the Rule's approval and its practical application within the Church, making it an essential resource for those seeking to understand the inner workings of one of the most influential religious orders in history. This volume serves not only as a historical record of Catholic tradition but also as a practical manual for understanding the charism of Saint Francis. Scholars of religious history and members of the clergy will find this book to be an invaluable reference for the study of Franciscan life and the pursuit of evangelical perfection.
