An enemy known as the Saltic, a despicable, vermiform life form that used the brains of other sentient species to function as fast computer nodes. The Saltic came from the Andromeda galaxy and the Romani had discovered how to use the intergalactic drives captured from the Saltic to take the war to them. An expeditionary force consisting of the Romani with the most experience in fighting the Saltic were sent through the wormhole to explore Andromeda and look for allies in the war against the worms. The battleship Tempestas and the dreadnought Avenging Talon entered the Andromeda galaxy carrying with them the hopes and fears of the human race as they attempt to discover how to defeat the greatest threat, ever encountered, to the future of humanity.
