It characterizes the book-writing ministry of Dr. Sonny Hernandez that he exposes false doctrines that otherwise fly under the radar and that he proves by irrefutable exegesis of Scripture truths that are unpopular and therefore largely ignored. Earlier he contended for the sovereign decree of reprobation. In this slim, but weighty, volume he opposes the false doctrine of annihilationism and demonstrates the biblical doctrine of the eternal conscious torment of the reprobate ungodly in hell.

This is not an unimportant doctrine. At stake in the confession of everlasting hell is the vey nature of God as the holy upholder of His own infinite goodness. At stake also is the infinite seriousness of unbelief concerning Jesus Christ, and therefore the seriousness of the infinite guilt of a life of unbelief and ungodliness.

As is always the case with Hernandez' work, although he quotes extensively theological authorities on his subject, sound exegesis governs the controversy. Jude 21 establishes what is meant by "eternal" in verse 7. And Revelation 20:10, of the devil's punishment, establishes the nature and duration of the punishment of wicked humans elsewhere in Revelation: "tormented day and night for ever and ever."

The believer will read the book with awe at the holiness of God expressed in the reality of hell; with an awakened awareness of the awfulness of hell, and, therefore, of the guilt of his or her sinfulness and sin; and with lively gratitude to Jesus Christ for suffering the infinite, eternal torment of hell in his or her stead.

Highly commendable and excellent work of shining the light of God's Word and glory on the perverse denial of the everlasting torment of the wicked.
