MULTICOLORED BROWNS PRESENTS(c) Born in Jacksonville, Florida, January 25, 1970, JaNyce "NeeCee" Whiteside entered the world a rare breed. Moving to Washington, DC in infancy with her mother and step-father, desire to write became an outlet to deal with life. JaNyce grew up predominately in the NE and NW sections of Washington D.C., with a diverse and dramatic way of life evolving her mentally. Embracing her creative spirit at age nine she wrote her first poem entitled "What is this thing called life?" Her most famous poetic influences are Nikki Giovanni, Claude McKay, Countee Cullen and Langston Hughes. In 2001 she returned to Jacksonville with her son to raise him writing poetry and short stories in her spare time. In 2008 she published her first book of poetry "The Psalms of NeeCee" (c) Outskirts Press, available through Amazon.com, Barnes & Nobles and other distributors around the world. In 2009 she decided to step in front of a microphone again since 1989 and became a regular poet at an open mic night in Jacksonville. JaNyce is a strong advocate in the fight against HIV/AIDS & domestic violence, she participated in the Jacksonville Jaguars teen television program "Straight talk"2011, where her poem "The Day I heard I Had HIV" was read by a local high school student. She continues to write and recite poetry and short stories. Her book of poetry "Aquarius in flight" is her sophomore poetry project. This compilation of prose presents the reader to the maturity and motivation JaNyce has sustained from her earlier writings. The poet and writer is not afraid to open her soul to the reader inviting you to peruse her trials, tribulations, beliefs, heartaches as well as awakenings in character through her literary talent. An ongoing work in progress, her temperament and desire to write and recite her life comes from love of people, an appeal to abet anyone who reads her existence and learns something new about themselves, or enjoys the understanding she has to learn history of her personal family, the black family and spiritual family. She is also writing her first of three titled novels all portraying stories of strong African American women and real issues like health, history, and daily true life struggles. She believes in fairytale happy endings, but she writes about real issues everyone can relate to. A quote from the introduction of her very first book of poetry says it all: "I don't know how high I will fly, but I will never know unless I try."
