Deciding on a college major can seem difficult, but when you've earned your degree and are trying to find the right job, you face an additional challenge-the job also has to choose you.
In her self-help guide Armed with Persistence, LaTasha Brize recounts her own story of struggling to complete her bachelor's degree only to find that she can't find employment in her chosen field-health care-because she doesn't have enough work history or on-the-job training. After relocating to a bigger city, she eventually lands a job as an externship coordinator for a technical trade school-giving students the boost she needed when she was in their shoes. Written in a memoir style, this insightful book also lays out the business plan that helped Brize start her own health care staffing agency.
Learn from one who knows: when the job market or employers refuse to grant you the opportunities you need-don't give up. Sometimes you simply have to get a foot in the door, and sometimes you have to forge your own path. Either way, your best bet is to be armed with persistence.
LaTasha Brize grew up in Champaign, Illinois, raised by a single mother who struggled to keep food on the table by working at an industrial factory. Her mother always encouraged her and her two younger siblings to get a higher education so they could pursue better opportunities. Motivated by her mother's hardworking example and sage advice, Brize eventually earned a bachelor's degree and started her own health care staffing agency. She wrote Armed with Persistence to tell the story of her arduous, yet rewarding journey.
