Authorpreneur: A Guide to the Business of Being a Writer (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798188732653)

Nobody warns you about this part.

You spent years learning to write a good sentence. Nobody mentioned you'd also need to understand net receipts, spine width calculations, backend keywords, and why "hybrid publishing" sometimes means legitimate partner and sometimes means vanity press wearing a nicer sweater.

Authorpreneur is the business education every writer needs and almost nobody gets - the one that should have come stapled to the manuscript.

Across ten chapters, author and publishing consultant Eric Myers walks you through every business decision a modern writer actually faces, drawing on decades of experience and hands-on work guiding hundreds of authors through self-publishing.

Inside, you'll learn how to:

• Choose the right publishing path - traditional, self-published, or hybrid - for this book, at this stage of your career
• Produce a book that looks as professional as anything from a Big Five imprint, from formatting to cover design to print specs
• Set up your author business the right way: budgeting, pricing, royalties, and taxes that won't ambush you at tax season
• Get discovered - algorithm literacy, launch strategy, reviews, and advertising that actually converts
• Build a sustainable author platform without it eating every hour you meant to spend writing
• Read a contract properly and protect your rights before you sign away more than you meant to
• Network, collaborate, and build the industry relationships that make a career easier with every book
• Pace yourself for the long haul instead of burning out by book three
• Add income streams that actually fit you, instead of chasing whatever's trending this quarter
• Shift your mindset from "writer with some business stuff on the side" to author-entrepreneur, full stop

Myers writes with the same warmth and wit he'd bring to a conversation over coffee - equal parts industry expert and slightly exasperated friend who's watched every mistake in this book happen to someone, usually right before they called him.

Whether you're weighing your first publishing decision or wondering why book five still isn't finding readers, Authorpreneur treats the business of writing with the seriousness - and the occasional necessary laugh - it deserves.
