A total of 744 B-52s were built, with the last B-52H delivered in October 1962. The B-52 served gallantly with SAC for over 35 years in every major conflict throughout the Cold War period. They flew more than 2,000 airborne alert sorties during the Cuban Missile Crisis equipped with nuclear weapons. They flew thousands of sorties carrying conventional iron bombs during the Vietnam War and finished out their service with SAC by launching conventional cruise missiles and dropping thousands of precision weapons and iron bombs during the Gulf War in 1991.
