xBarbara al Sole is Brandt's second published anthology. It contains a selection of poems including the title poem, inspired by an amazing watercolour painting by Franco Giomi, the Tuscan/Italian painter. [My thanks to him for allowing me to use his painting, which I am pleased to own, on the cover of the book.] The other poems, on the theme of Love and freedom touch on the difficult issues of romantic and other kinds of love and the vicissitudes of contemporary socio cultural relations. 'The land of gates' explores both themes and is inspired by Brandt's recent travel to Enugu where he saw an array of Gates, aesthetically adorned but carrying out a much more prosaic function. It features the poem 'You'll rise', inspired both by Maya Angelou's poem 'I rise' and his amazingly inspired and highly motivated god daughter Shani Page-Muir. Finally, of note, is the poem 'Prorogue' a poem which highlights the then current problem being experienced by the Guyanese people when its minority government, in one of the few occasions in recent history, prorogued parliament precipitating a national and international crisis of confidence in the serving leadership of that troubled country - a step challenged by the country that invented it, Great Britain. In keeping with the practice laid down by the first anthology, Madiba and Other Poems, this anthology includes an extract of Brandt's prose from his forthcoming novel. Trail of the Lost Jaguar, soon to be published.

BRANDT FRSA The author has held a number of key positions in Education and Culture viz: chairman and executive director of DAACA, Diverse Arts and Artists Community Association; Founder and Programme Director for the MA in Arts Policy and Management at Birkbeck, University of London; Director of Education (& Dep Dir-General), Commonwealth Instit ute; Senior Education Officer Arts Council (of Great Britain); Lecturer Institute of Education, University of London; Youth Project worker and Youth &Fringe Theatre Director.; Primary school teacher Georgetown; Secondary school teacher London; University sector Governor, CSSD and Southampton Solent University. .Having trained as an actor/director and teacher of Drama, language and speech at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Brandt's credits include a number of dramatic roles and functions, including acting as Zach I Fugard's 'Blood Knot'. His post graduate studies were in the Sociology of Education, language and Culture. Professional interests are education for cultural diversity, language, education, arts and cultural policy. His private passions are the arts in general, and theatre, music and literature in particular. His writing includes poetry, prose and drama as well as academic papers and includes the academic best seller 'The Realization of Anti-Racist Teaching', (Falmer). Godfrey Brandt is the founding director of Couvade Productions and Consultancy. He is chairman of Moving Theatre Co.
