Barnaby - The First Skin: It shouldn't be this heavy (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798255828821)

He wanted to build a bear to bring his dead grandson back... instead he created a nightmare.

In the fog-shrouded town of Whalebone, Maine, grieving toymaker Alexander Wren refuses to let death win. Desperate to fill the devastating silence left by his daughter and grandson, he crafts Barnaby - a heavy, fever-warm stuffed bear sewn from his daughter's old coat and filled with grave soil, bone fragments, and an ancient, forbidden ritual.

At first, Barnaby feels like the answer to his prayers.
His impossible weight anchors the emptiness.
His pulsing heat chases away the cold.
His unblinking amber eyes seem to listen with perfect, eternal patience.

But Barnaby doesn't comfort. He consumes.

The bear hungers for devotion. He rewrites memories, silences joy, and slowly transforms loving families into hollow, serene shells who live only for his suffocating warmth. One by one, the people of Whalebone surrender to the heavy, living silence he brings - trading their grief for a permanence that never lets go.

Dark, atmospheric, and relentlessly unsettling, *Barnaby - The First Skin* is a masterful literary horror novel about the terrifying lengths we go to for love - and what love becomes when it refuses to die.

Some things are only permanent because they never stop taking.

If you crave slow-burn folk horror, psychological dread, and stories where the monster offers exactly what you beg for, this is your next obsession.

Pick up Barnaby...
Just don't expect to put him down.
