The battle was a crucial turning point in the war, as the German army attempted to break through the Allied lines and capture the strategic town of Bastogne in Belgium. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the battle, including the initial German assault, the Allied defense of Bastogne, and the eventual relief of the town by General George S. Patton's Third Army. The author, who was a member of the U.S. Army during the battle, provides a first-hand account of the events and includes detailed descriptions of the tactics and strategies used by both sides. In addition to the military aspects of the battle, the book also explores the human side of the conflict, including the experiences of individual soldiers and civilians caught in the midst of the fighting. The two German officers were left with Captain Adams. Members of the staff were grouped around General McAuliffe when Harper and Jones arrived.5 McAuliffe asked someone what the paper contained and was told that it requested a surrender. He laughed and said, ""Aw, nuts!"" It really seemed funny to him at the time. He figured he was giving the Germans ""one hell of a beating"" and that all of his men knew it. The demand was all out of line with the existing situation. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
