Be Present: Finding Life In The Little Moments (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798996549290)

After forty years of building and leading caregiving communities, Kathy Swanstrom learned something unexpected: the moments that matter most are rarely the dramatic ones. They are the small ones.

The extra minute you stayed. The question you asked - and waited to hear answered. The hand you held. The name you remembered. The choice to stop fixing long enough to simply be there.

Be Present is for the people who do the work of caring - and quietly wonder if they're doing enough:

• The nurse, aide, or caregiver whose hands are in this work every single day

• The administrator who runs the building but can't slow down inside it

• The family member who showed up faithfully and still wonders if it was enough

• Anyone who has ever loved someone while learning how fragile time really is

This is not a clinical manual. It is a deeply human reflection on caregiving, burnout, grief, and connection - written not from the far shore of having it all figured out, but from the middle of the river, by someone still learning to swim.

Drawing on four decades of training staff, sitting beside residents, and walking with families through the hardest moments of their lives, Kathy offers something most caregiving books don't: permission. Permission to be imperfect. Permission to grieve. Permission to stop performing care and start being present for it.

Because in the end, presence is what people remember.

You do not have to be perfect to care for someone well. You just have to be present.

Kathy Swanstrom is the founder of Anchor Care Consulting and has spent forty years building and leading caregiving communities.
