Before the World Changed Us: Dreams, Expectations, Comparison and the Search for Identity (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798194183807)

Before the World Changed Us is a deeply reflective journey into the person we were before comparison, expectations, fear, and the pressure to become someone we were told we should be.

Every life begins with possibility. As children, we dream without hesitation. We imagine futures without asking whether they are practical, profitable, or acceptable to others. But slowly, almost invisibly, the world begins to teach us how to measure ourselves.

Grades become measures of intelligence. Achievements become measures of worth. Comparison becomes a habit. Approval becomes something we seek. Expectations become identities. And somewhere along the way, the child who once dreamed freely can become difficult to recognize.

This book explores the invisible forces that shape us long before adulthood-childhood dreams, family expectations, education, friendships, comparison, failure, achievement, self-image, ambition, and the search for identity. It asks questions many of us carry quietly:

How much of who we are was truly chosen by us?
How much was shaped by what others expected?
And who were we before the world told us who to become?

With honesty and compassion, Before the World Changed Us looks backward-not to blame the past, but to understand it. It invites readers to revisit forgotten dreams, old insecurities, childhood memories, and the expectations they have carried for years.

Because every belief has a history.
Every insecurity has a beginning.
Every ambition has an origin.
And beneath the person we learned to become, there may still be a part of us waiting to be remembered.

This is not simply a book about childhood.

It is a book about becoming.
About losing ourselves.
About understanding why.
And, perhaps, about finding our way back.

Before the World Changed Us is for anyone who has ever achieved something and still felt empty, followed a path that did not entirely feel like their own, compared their journey to someone else's, or wondered what life might have looked like if they had never learned to doubt themselves.

Before the world changed us, there was a version of us who simply dreamed.

Perhaps it is time to meet that person again.
