Berlin Rendezvous: One day, late in the cold War... (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798696786513)

What would you risk to help a stranger escape a tyrannical regime: your marriage, your partner's career, your own freedom?Diana arrives in West Berlin, bride to a British Army officer - and a fish out of water. The Army operates by 19th century standards; wives conform. Don't these women have lives of their own? Are shopping or affairs their only outlets? Does no one care that an officer is beating his wife? But the officer class will hear no criticism from a woman who doesn't know her place. As tensions grow, Diana receives a risky proposition. Dare she gamble so much in a city full of danger and intrigue? One man is already dead...At the same time, terrorists are about to attack the British military community, aided by rogue elements bitterly opposed to the reforms sweeping the Eastern bloc. Why is Diana's husband the target?Written by an author who lived in West Berlin for ten years, this novel evokes the atmosphere of a vibrant city surrounded by walls and fences, patrolled by tanks and helicopters: a city under international military occupation since 1945. Following the 30th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall, here is a story to bring that unique period to life for another generation.
