Big Dreams Back Home: Finding Purpose and Building Community In Small Town America (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798899330230)

What happens when the life you've planned never arrives?

Fresh from graduate school abroad, Aaron P. Kohrs returned to his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina, expecting it to be a brief stop before launching a big-city career in politics and public affairs. Instead, unexpected circumstances kept him home for years-years that would transform his understanding of success, service, family, and purpose.

In this heartfelt memoir, Big Dreams Back Home: Finding Purpose and Building Community in Small-Town America, Kohrs shares a collection of personal stories and reflections about growing up in Western North Carolina, returning home as a young adult, and discovering that meaningful change often begins in our own communities. Through experiences in education, local politics, volunteerism, family caregiving, and civic engagement, he learns that fulfillment is found not in conquering the world, but in connecting with others and serving where you are planted.

Part memoir, part reflection on community and belonging, Big Dreams Back Home is an inspiring reminder that life's detours can become its greatest destinations. For anyone questioning their path, searching for purpose, or wondering whether staying close to home means settling, this book offers a powerful alternative perspective: sometimes the place you least expect to find yourself is exactly where you're meant to be.

Big Dreams Back Home will resonate with readers of memoir, personal growth, community leadership, and small-town life.
