Birdcage Walk-A Novel (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781590190258)

One downed pilot. One dead man's identity. The lie that saved D-Day.

Holland, spring 1944. With the Allied invasion only weeks away, American reconnaissance pilot Captain Max Becker is shot down deep behind enemy lines. Cornered and out of options, he does the unthinkable-he takes the identity of a dying SS colonel. Within days he is standing in Berlin, shaking the hand of Adolf Hitler himself. Trusted by the Reich and recruited to run Germany's spy network from a quiet London street called Birdcage Walk, Max becomes the most dangerous kind of double agent: the one the enemy believes completely. Working in secret with Churchill's deception committee, he feeds Berlin exactly what it wants to hear-that the great invasion will fall on the Pas-de-Calais, not Normandy. But every flight back into occupied Europe could be his last. A brilliant woman on Churchill's staff is asking questions he cannot answer, and somewhere in London a spy known only as "The Fog" is watching his every move. One mistake, and the invasion-and Max-dies on the beach. Inspired by the real deception operations that made D-Day possible.
