There were also unwelcome visitors. Such as when an enemy bomber machine gunned a school as children played outside and, on another occasion, one lad recalls a lucky escape when a night time bomb exploded outside his bedroom window.

Such fantastic memories, and many others, are preserved within this book, although, and sadly, the contributors are now long gone. As such, it makes for a great record of life in one small Suffolk town. Yet, these experiences were reflected in people in other towns and cities across the nation. As such, this book provides a snippet into the country's social history during a time of conflict.
