Breaking Canaan's Curse: The Great Faith of the Gentile Woman (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798185071014)

Can a curse spoken over your ancestors still be speaking over you - and can it be broken by a single word of faith?

In Matthew 15 and Mark 7, a woman from the region of Tyre and Sidon comes crying after Jesus - not by her name, but by her nation's oldest wound. She is a Canaanite, carrying a label first spoken in Genesis 9, a curse older than her grief and heavier than her daughter's torment. Jesus answers her first cry with silence. His disciples want her sent away. Even His own words seem, at first, to close the door: I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she will not leave. She kneels in the dust of a proverb that calls her a dog beneath the table - and there, at the lowest place she could stand, she finds the crumb that is enough to heal her child and break, in one sentence, a curse millennia deep.

Breaking Canaan's Curse is a devotional journey through that encounter. Each chapter opens with the primary biblical texts, moves into historical and biblical exposition that recovers what "Canaanite" actually meant to a first-century Jewish ear, and closes with reflection questions that turn her story toward your own - the labels you carry, the doors that seem closed to you, the silence you've prayed into. This is not a story about a woman who got lucky. It's a story about what happens when inherited shame meets unrelenting faith, and a curse spoken at the beginning of Scripture is answered by a King near its center.

Whether you read it one chapter at a time or take in the whole account in a single sitting, these pages invite you to bring your own ancestry, your own labels, and your own silence to that same Gentile road - and let the One who broke her curse meet you on yours.

What this book is

• A character study and devotional exposition rooted in Matthew 15:21-28 and Mark 7:24-30, read against the KJV text
• A hybrid form that weaves three registers in every chapter: primary-text grounding, historical-cultural exposition, and devotional/theological reflection
• A focused exploration of one encounter - the Canaanite woman's plea, Christ's silence, and the great faith that broke through it
• A historically grounded study of Second Temple Jewish attitudes toward Canaanites, and of what the name itself carried in the first century
• A reverent treatment that takes Christ's hard words seriously rather than softening them, and lets the tension stand until the text itself resolves it

What this book offers the reader

• Short, structured readings that move from Scripture to historical context to a reflection aimed at the reader's own walk with God
• A deeper understanding of the ancestral curse of Canaan in Genesis 9 - and of how the Gospel answers a curse it never pretends to ignore
• Insight into what it means to press into mercy when the answer, at first, is silence
• A lens for recognizing inherited shame and ancestral labels - and how great faith refuses to let them have the final word
• Encouragement that being outside the household of promise is not the same as being outside the reach of its King
• Devotional invitations to examine your own "Canaanite" label - whatever name your past, your family, or your failures have given you - and to ask for the crumb that is enough
• An honest, unsentimental treatment of a hard biblical episode that stays faithful to the text while making room for the reader's own great faith
