Dr Tait won a Major Scholarship to Trinity College, Oxford, to read Modern History and graduated in 1968. His research in Medieval Ecclesiastical History resulted in his thesis on The Brigittines of Syon Abbey (Middlesex) for which he was awarded his doctorate by the University of Oxford in 1976. The examiners' recommendation that the thesis be published was never followed owing to the stringency of the times and the obscurity of the subject! It is now available, however, on Amazon: A Fair Place: Syon Abbey 1415-1539. Dr Tait taught in a variety of schools, preparatory and secondary, independent and State, culminating in eight years as Headmaster of Westville House School, Ilkley. From 1997-2000 he studied the BA course in Theology at St Benet's Hall, Oxford, specialising in Biblical Studies. During this period, he gained two University Prizes: the Canon Hall Prize for Translation and Exegesis of the Four Gospels and Acts in 1998, and the Hall-Houghton Prize for Translation and Exegesis of the Septuagint in 1999. In 2001, he obtained the degree of MA, with distinction, from the University of Manchester, with a dissertation on the subject of New Testament Categories in the Pseudepigrapha, and, in 2004, the degree of Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, summa cum laude, his tesina being on the topic Why Melchizedek? An Examination of his Contribution to the Christology of Hebrews. In 2008, he completed his doctorate in biblical studies in the University of Manchester, his thesis being published in the series Analecta Biblica in 2010: Jesus, the Divine Bridegroom in Mark 2:18-22: Mark's Christology Upgraded. His book on Melchizedek and the other priests in the Letter to the Hebrews had just been published in Italy. He now works freelance as author, reviewer and translator.
