Broken Music is the first volume of poetry by George Lenker. Lenker's poems inhabit a nonlinear world that usually avoids any sense of narrative. He puts readers in time and place with imagery, rhythm and symbols and lets them linger there with their own sense of play and curiosity.
Lenker's verse explores ethereal mists and street-corner shadows, littered with jazz dreams, mystic hobos and ever-present hounds, and carry you to a panoply of destinations: apocalyptic, hallucinogenic, or sometimes just plain old down and dirty.
George Lenker is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in such places as The New York Times, ESPN.com, and many other magazines and periodicals in the U.S. and Europe. Lenker's poetic influences include James Tate, William Butler Yeats, e e cummings, John Ashbery, Mary Oliver, Seamus Heaney. W.S. Merwin, W.H. Auden, and Anne Sexton.
Lenker is a figment of the imagination of a dog named TJ who lives in Northampton, Massachusetts. Thanks for subscribing!
