This green roadmap by two California climate leaders, Michael Peevey and Diane Wittenberg shows how the state built a gold standard environment along with a thriving economy. It's a very readable and inspiring contemporary account of how to make things happen.
Michael R. Peevey earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and began his career as a Washington, DC, economist.
Peevey founded the California Council of Environmental and Economic Balance in 1973 and was the organization's president until joining the Southern California Edison Company in 1986, where he became its president.
A key advisor to three governors, Peevey was president of the California Public Utilities Commission for twelve years, retiring in 2014.
Currently the chair of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission, Diane O. Wittenberg was the founding president of the nonprofit California Climate Action Registry and president of The Climate Registry, which developed voluntary greenhouse gas reporting standards for forty-one states.
Wittenberg was vice president of corporate communications for Southern California Edison and in 2011 became the executive director of The PEV Collaborative, which works to ensure the commercial success of electric cars in California.
