Called to Serve: The Life of a Priest (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798246894682)

Called to Serve: The Life of a Priest is a contemplative and pastoral portrait of priesthood as it is truly lived-quietly, faithfully, and over time. Rather than offering an idealized or defensive account, the book traces the priestly vocation as a lifelong journey shaped by grace, discipline, sacrifice, and enduring love for God's people.

Beginning with the early stirrings of vocation and continuing through seminary formation, ordination, pastoral ministry, perseverance, and final surrender, Fr. George Alberto Gonzalez presents priesthood not as a role or status, but as a way of being. The book attends to the hidden rhythms of priestly life: prayer before dawn, presence in hospital corridors and parish homes, the weight of spiritual fatherhood, the struggle with loneliness and fatigue, and the quiet joy that flows from fidelity.

Written in clear, accessible language, Called to Serve is intended for priests-both newly ordained and seasoned-who may recognize their own lives in its pages. It also speaks to seminarians and religious men and women seeking an honest vision of vocation, as well as to lay readers who desire a deeper understanding of the inner life of the priest.

Grounded in pastoral realism and spiritual depth, the book resists both clericalism and cynicism. It affirms priesthood as a grace-dependent calling, sustained not by perfection or prominence, but by perseverance and trust in God's faithfulness. Ultimately, Called to Serve invites readers to contemplate the mystery of a life poured out in service-one shaped less by public recognition than by quiet obedience, mercy, and love.
