Steven would once have described himself as mercurial. Perhaps he still is. That is for others to judge. He has lived and worked all over the world: from the sun-drenched beaches of Brazil to the U.S.A., Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands. He now resides in Scotland, where the beaches are slightly less sun-drenched (and mostly require the use of woollen jumpers), and counts himself a Scottish Europhile, whatever that means. He has an assortment of academic qualifications to his name in the fields of biochemistry, DNA analysis and climate-related marine biology and has worked in fields that include biotechnology, forensic DNA analysis, yacht skippering and diving. Most recently he helped establish a charity to investigate the global decline of coral reefs as a result of climate change. Since then he has been doing battle with the Big C. For the time being it seems to be a Mexican standoff. This is his first attempt at novel writing.
